Sylvie's Love ★★
Eugene Ashe
Starring Tessa Thompson, Nnamdi Asommugha, Aja Naomi King, Jemima Kirke, Tone Bell

Telling the story of a life of a love mostly lost, Sylvie's Love harks back to the stylish era of the 50's and 60's and that is where this film is most impressive. The colour and the style of the time truly pops and you're left in no doubt of the tone this is going for.
For me though, this movie is too slow and soppy for its own good. It's not until the second act that the characters find their feet and you truly start to invest in their story; but by then it was too late for me.
It is definitely great to see another black story be told without the theme being about racism and the actors do their best with that they're given. The music is great; a movie is always enhanced with a side story of the jazz scene! But the story itself is a barely above average love story, meandering from one heart felt moment to another.
